Argos sign Hamdan

Postby padre35 on Wed Mar 10, 2010 10:43 am

CFLDaily RT @CFL: The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced
that QB Gibran Hamdan has signed with the club through the 2011 season. #CFL

He was a mobile Qb with a decent arm whose teammates seemed to like him in the Dolphins training camp in 07, the Argos had to sign him and now he is more than likely the front runner to be their Qb.

Zero CFL experience = a steep learning curve = Argos miss playoffs in 2010.

I highly doubt he comes out of training camp any higher than 3rd on the depth chart. Jim Barker isn't a dummy.

Who is going to beat Hamdan out? Dalton Bell? Bell couldn't even stick with the Riders as 3rd string on their depth chart.

One step at a time for the Argos, they got their Qb, they got their Wr, now they need LT, passrushing DE, Cb, and a Safety.

More QBs are on their way and Barker has stated that it will be an open competition at training camp.

Love it! He'll be #3 of 2. Dalton Bell takes the #1 and #2 spots!

No seriously it'll be interesting to see how he adjusts to the Canadian game. Not sure he's the guy I'd bring in but he does have some pro experience if not much game time.

I've got my money on that beer league guy - Malleo - that Barker is interested in.

Who else could be added for TC competition Ravi? - any ideas? - Buck Pierce possibly? Jeff Garcia? Is that arena ball vet Barker signed for the Stamps last season still available?

They might as well bring in a Darryl Leason out of the Alberta Football League or somebody from the Ontario senior ranks to compete with the Copper Football League import.

What? - you mean give a Canadian guy a shot to play, no, even just compete at QB in a CFL TC ??? - please, don't make Barker & Rita laugh.

Now the Argos are looking at Cleo Lemon, a Qb I know very very well he was the starter most of the yr the dolphins went 1-15...

All I can say is..Barker has went looney...

We used to call him Mrs Cleo, because it did not require a psychic to see what was coming when he played.

Miami must have had a lot more problems than just the QB position for them to go 1-15. Also, is it not possible that Lemon might be better suited to the Canadian game?

In a word Ravi.."no".

Cleo Lemon is just a scatter armed Qb who makes poor decisions and could not run to save his life, removing the Hyperbole, his real problem was extreme inaccuracy, he could not hit the doors on the side of a barn to be honest about it.

He does have a strong arm, and Cam Cameron is know in the NFL as a Qb Guru, but he cut Lemon in favor of John Beck who was just awful as a Qb, I wouldn't mind if some Cam Cameron residual goo stuck to Cleo Lemon, but do not bet on it.

What is in the water out there in TO? What is the obsession with NFL former starters? Or maybe it's Barks....

Where's Barks contacts? There has got to be a mobile, smaller, smart headed, young QB out there that can fit the system.

Lemon? As soon to be 30 year old QB, what are you expecting from him? TO start? To mentor? How in the hell do you mentor when you're marveling at the REALLY big field, the motion and that 12th man?

I don't get it, he brought Akili Smith in one year to tantilize us with his football prowess....

NEVER under-estimate the propensity of a lot of CFL decision makers to have a lot of faith in or be all ga ga over ex-NFLers or big name US college ball players; those are THE big games in their home country; they will gladly import any & all of this football talent to the CFL pretty well any chance they get, and give them plenty of opportunity to play in the CFL. And meanwhile, a Barker type has never heard of award winning or record setting QBs like Mike Faulds or Erik Glavic who are sitting there available to be signed as free agents for his team in desperate need of QB competition for TC.

Well, I watched Bishop play in College at Kansas State, and he could run really well, Cleo has two feet stuck in clay.

Argos trying to sign ex-Dolphins QB Lemon

BY ARASH MADANI

Already with two quarterbacks on the roster yet to take a snap in the CFL, the Toronto Argonauts have been negotiating with former Miami Dolphins starter Cleo Lemon to bring the 30-year-old north.
